Abstract
Mammalian non-neuronal cells are modified to store and release a neurotransmitter. The cells can be modified by loading the cells, with a neurotransmitter in culture. The cells can be genetically modified to
produce, store, and release the neurotransmitters. Also, the neurotransmitter is released selectively by the cells in a quantal fashion. Further disclosed are methods for making such cells and to methods for
using such cells to treat neurodegenerative, psychiatric,, and neuromuscular disorders in mammals. |
