From another wired.com article, this one about Orrin Hatch, IMO one of worst statist authoritarian members of the Senate, and not only in this case, but also in the area of civil liberties:

wired.com

Hatch represents a number of Utah-based Microsoft competitors.

No comment required.

"If you want to get involved in business, you should get involved in politics.

There it is, in plain English: "Pay me off with campaign donations and don't compete too hard against my constituents or I'll use the powers of government to smash you."

But if you want to get involved in politics, you must get involved in business, especially in this area."

Isn't there a name for a system where politicians control the economy (ie. business)? And hasn't history demonstrated the utter failure and futility of such a system?

JH: MAybe when Jackson retires he can get a job with magazines such as these where freedom of expression does not have to be supported by law or legal precedent. The guy was motivated by personal pique and it showed throughout the trial and now after the trial. The guy has no judicial temperance in this regard. He is out to satisfy a "personal vendetta. This case is DOA on Appeal and that is why the DOJ and Jackson are trying so hard to skirt the Appeals Court where there are some judges that are not hampered by Jackson's lack of knowledge about economics and software industry.
