Good Question. You can call Bell Atlantic Wireless at 1-800-308 DATA and ask technical support(option 3) if they support the Palm IIIc. They are open on Sunday. They will give you a much better deal on the Novatel Wireless Minstrel III Modem than Novatel will if you sign up with them. My gut feeling is that the answer is yes, because it is part of the Palm III family, which they support. The Proxiweb question is not so clear. The last version of Proxiweb(3.5) came out last October before the Palm IIIc and IIIxe did. This is what Proxiweb had to say at the time: ProxiWeb Version 3.5 Copyright (C) 1997-1999 by ProxiNet, Inc. All rights reserved. README for ProxiWeb 3.5 ======================= Introduction ============ Thank you for downloading ProxiWeb 3.5. ProxiWeb is a full- featured web browser for handheld computers. This README file is provided to give you a brief introduction to the features available in ProxiWeb and to offer you some hints on installing ProxiWeb. For more detailed information about ProxiNet or our products, please visit our web site at proxinet.com Features ======== * Access to the vast universe of data on the Web * Access to Text and Graphics * Access to Secure Sites (i.e. https://...) * Forms capability * Frames [limited to text links] [Note: Pages containing Javascript or Java applets may not function properly.] Hardware Configuration ====================== ProxiWeb 3.5 is required if you have the following devices. Earlier versions of ProxiWeb will not work properly. Palm IIIx, IIIe Palm Vx Palm VII ProxiWeb 3.5 is compatible with these earlier Palm Pilot devices. Palm III Palm V ProxiWeb 3.5 is *NOT* compatible with the following models: Palm 1000 Palm 5000 Palm Pilot II Palm Pilot Personal Palm Pilot Professional [Note: A Palm Professional with a Synapse Pager Card upgrade or an upgraded to a 3.x ROM will work with ProxiWeb 3.5.] OBTAINING A SECURITY PROFILE (IMPORTANT!) ========================================= To use the Cookies and security features, you must first register for a free ProxiWeb Security Profile. To do this, use a desktop web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) to visit proxinet.com After creating your ProxiNet Security Profile you must enter the username and password in ProxiWeb. Run ProxiWeb and select the 'Menu' button located next to the Graffiti area on the Pilot. Next, tap 'Prefs' in the pulldown menu bar and then select 'Security...' . Enter the username and password into the fields provided. The ProxiWeb software has now been enabled to use Cookies and SSL secure connections. FINAL COMMENTS ============== To access Web content, ProxiWeb requires Internet access to your Palm Pilot. Palm Computing sells dial-up modems. Other vendors sell wireless modems, and cellular phone manufactures sell phones capable of delivering digital data. ISPs and Wireless Service Providers offer Internet access. Check your local ISP to find out what services are available in your area. Thank you for using ProxiWeb 3.5! Dated: 10/19/1999 There is no question in my mind that Proxiweb will make the next version of their software compatible with the IIIc and IIIxe if it is not already compatible. One can call up PUMA Technology and ask. Qualcomm is coming out very soon with their final non beta release of their Eudora Internet suite for the Palm. I would only be interested in checking out their browser as the Yahoo mail option works beautifully on Proxiweb in allowing me to retrieve all my Email on my PC from my Palm. download.cnet.com I would not download this beta version. Wait for the free non beta version to come out in July. Qualcomm's browser will certainly work on your PalmIIIc. I would be interested in seeing if their browser will support SSL technology and graphics like Proxiweb. Their PDQ browser was good but inferior to Proxiweb. I was able to access SI on it but had trouble posting messages. And they had the nerve to charge $45 after a month of free trial use! Their new software will be free. But there is a catch there. In order to sync your Email on your PC with there software for the Palm, you have to sign up with them for their Eudora account. I would download their software and then delete their Eudora Email applications and just use their browser as a back up for Proxiweb when it comes out. You may want to call up Novatel too if your not satisfied with the response from Bell Atlantic:novatelwireless.com Keep me informed. I'm quite interested and will only be happy to point you in the right direction here in terms of getting the best software on your PalmIIIc. PS Bell Atlantic coverage area on the $24.95 unlimited access plan is from Boston to South Carolina. This is a good site to determine wireless coverage in your area:novatelwireless.com
