HJ: I have a hard time worrying about MSFT one way or the other. They are rank amateurs at public relations, that is all I know -- one of the worst I have ever seen. If they could see themselves the way others see them, they could have saved themselves and their stockholders hundreds of billions. They are, in public affairs, incompetent, no matter what they do or do not achieve in software.

This may be another case of Microsoft whining. Didnt Bell Labs survive the breakup of Ma Bell? They even survived the spinoff of Lucent.
