It is also ruled out in any workstation using more than 1GB of memory. An 840 can only support 4 RIMMS @ 256MB each. Any workstation who needs this level of memory would opt for an Athlon with 1.5GB or 2GB instead. Later, the choice would be likely to be DDRDRAM for either PIII, PIV, Thunderbird, or Mustang in a SMP setup. At these memory sizes, DRDRAM slows down too much (32 128Mb chips in each string). This is RMBS achilles heel, the rotten scalabilty to large memory sizes. Some servers ship with 16GB or more.
