Hi pompsander; Re voice recognition... I think it's going to be here and a lot more. I want a computer that can completely replace the duties of a whole lot more.

(Back on topic.)

Along the way, AI can provide us with a lot more things we all want. For example, I could make a mint if I could sell a tool that went out on the net and found the bullish slant in every article that mentioned RMBS, and eliminated all the other (obviously mis)information. (G)

pompsander,

Voice recognition for creation and then dissemination of even simple work would be a plus. I bet the software of the future will give me what I want. I'm not alone, believe me.

I agree that a lot of software of this kind will be here. But we are still few years away from what you see in science fiction movies. But it is a question of writing the software that is usable, not RDRAM vs. SDRAM or DDR SDRAM. By the time this kind of software is here, RDRAM will be yesterday's news, replaced by the next big thing in memory. Most likely memory on the same die as CPU.

Not to mention the applications of voice recognition for people who don't have their hands free. Like drivers.
