Looks like NOK is already caput at Sprint and soon caput at Verizon--locked out of the two largest US carriers. It is not unusual that salesperson would not know 1x chips. Carriers usually do not train sales staff in phones until they are almost ready to be on the shelves--in my experience after tester handsets arrive and only a couple of weeks before inventory comes in. Very few salespersons are into the technology enough to read the threads and websites on up and coming stuff; they should but they don't. They wait until they are trained by their employers.
