Elmer,

they are shipping in quantities equivalent to Athlons.

Compaq and Gateway are:

1. Selling lots of GHz Athlons.
2. Not selling GHz PIII's.
3. All of the above.

Which leads me to the following question. How many Athlons is Intel shipping?

Elmer - RE: "Yes they [Intel] have and they are shipping [1GHz] in quantities equivalent to Athlons."

You keep repeating that but you don't realize how STUPID that really sounds.

When you first made that statement, the only 1GHz Athlons available were from FAB 25 in Austin. The same fab that also makes .25 micron K6-2s and .18 micron K6-2+ chips.

Intel, on the other hand, has at least four fabs, some that may be huge megafabs, making .18 processors, and ALL they can come up with is equivalent quantities of 1GHz processors?

And this is something for you to brag about???

Sorry if I sound a little confrontational tonight...the Stars lost...

Hello Elmer,

Re: You'd never make that statement if AMD was winning the benchmarks.

Probably not, but we both know "bench marking" is a game and not necessairly related to real world performance which it is assumed to do.

Re: I know this is a shock but "Best Buy" is not the only place on earth where CuMines are sold and one salesman's comments should not be construed to reflect the worldwide market.

Yes, I know this, but I'm starting to see a pattern here. Everyone across America is reporting similar observations at various store, European Intel dealers are giving up on getting processors from Intel and are building and selling AMD based systems. Something's wrong at Intel!

All I can say is Willy better be really good and on time or all hell's going to break out in this processor market and AMD is coming out on top. Looks like Intel is playing "you bet your farm" on this one. I never thought I'd see it come to this.

Elmer,

> Yes they have and they are shipping in quantities equivalent to Athlons.

Ha! Didn't you (and Tench also) say a month or six weeks ago that Intel was shipping a lot more 1GHz PIIIs than AMD? Now, you changed your tune to that Intel is shipping in quantities equivalent to Athlons. Where do you get this information from? Does Intel relay all this info to you?

Re: Yes they have and they are shipping in quantities equivalent to Athlons [1 GHZ parts]

Well, if INTC and AMD are tied for production and delivery of products, I guess there isn't anything left to discuss. Unless its which way each stock price may be heading....

INTC Market Cap 425.5 Billion
AMD Market Cap 13.6 Billion

:-)

Dan

I know this is a shock but "Best Buy" is not the only place on earth where CuMines are sold and one salesman's comments should not be construed to reflect the worldwide market.

I received a Dell4me catalog today. The fastest Pee3 advertised is 866Mhz...pricey too. Looks like a Dell catalog is not the right place to look either.
