<OT> - Agree about setting up a ROTH for kids...I read in one of the financial rags that they don't even have to have W2-reportable wages, ie babysitting, mowing, lemonade-stand income counts. I haven't confirmed this with an "official source" (accountant or IRS). Setting up a ROTH for a child is a great gift.

<The really smart thing to do is to set up Roth IRA's for children/students who are earning the required wages. It's a great way to make a gift to a kid who has 40+ years of tax - free
compounding to take advantage of, assuming that Uncle Sam doesn't take it away. Lesson learned: Do it while you can. You can also use the money to pay college bills, but I would
only use it as a last resort.>

Douglas, this is a really intriguing post. Please explain further.

If I can't contribute to my child's Roth IRA, how is that a great gift?
