Gene,

Voice recognition will be indeed useful for the smaller devices, but it still has a long way to go regardless. My favorite example are the two sentences:

I rowed to the shore
I rode to the shore

Very different meaning yet identical pronunciation. The ability to analyze conversational context (which means that the device may need to eavesdrop on conversations) will require very high, specific processing capabilities (a la the Emotion Engine?) as well as large, yet granular memory (for small footprint devices).
