OT - Firewalls

Alan, Thanks for your update on firewalls. My DSL automatically disconnects for at least five minutes every two hours. Then I have to re sign on after waiting five minutes. (This is usually a good excuse to get away from the computer.) Does the fact my DSL is not on all the time lessen my need for a firewall? Also, don't Macs (which I recently gave up and now regret) come with firewall protection already installed?

Huey - I haven't heard that Macs come with firewall protection but I don't know much about Macs. Regarding your DSL connection, the best security you can have is to disconnect. However, 2 hours is plenty of time for someone to discover your PC and do something to it.

BTW - I am not a computer security expert; just an informed consumer with a technical background.
