I think this is because the appropriate expense category
at Rambus has much more budget :)

It appears that Mike Magee spent too much time in the bar shmoozing with Rambus execs, and not enough time on the floor at Computex.

Based on Mike's/The Register's past positions on RDRAM vs. Alternatives, I'll be he was trying his best to find chipsets on which to report. It must have been incredibly frustrating for him.
