Re: Has it ever been established where and when this would happen?

Mani & CrazyMan,

I vote for:

1. Stockholders meeting in New York next year
2. Anywhere else

chic (who doesn't want to sell any AMD for a trip until 2001)

Hello Thread,

Possible delays in KT133 boards: aceshardware.com

KT133: Problems With 3 DIMMs (HARDWARE)

Thanks to Temp for sending me this c't link (German) regarding the 3 DIMM problem with current KT-133 chipsets. While the translation I read through was poor, it seems a number of motherboard makers are trying to resolve these problems with VIA before sending out samples or releasing their boards on the market. Obviously, this is a real issue for a lot of people, as quite a few consumers use all three slots, or at least would like to.

Some manufacturers spoke of bug in the chip record and from this resulting delays with the distribution. Others became more concrete and acknowledged that the KT133 runs unstably, if it is equipped with three PC133 modules - particularly with three different.

The article speaks of additional limitations imposed by the KT-133 chipset, such as a total limit of 6 SDRAM banks as opposed to 8 with KX-133. While the KT-133 motherboard I tested worked fine, I admit that I only populated two of the three DIMM sockets. I'm currently looking for more information on the matter. Hopefully this is an issue only with early chipset revisions, one which will not make it to the market. If the problem is more serious, it could cause delays while VIA and motherboard manufacturers work to solve the problem (or wait for the next iteration of chipsets from VIA, ALi, SiS, and AMD).

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan
