Pete,
RE:"A simple fix for both your systems is to get an external modem. Either the traditional kind that plugs into a serial line, like mine, or one that connects through USB. You will see far less troubles and to cut a connection, just pull the power or hit the reset button on the modem. It is also good for troubleshooting problems."

That's cheating! <G> I'm determined to get this USR Sportster ISA to work... and it is working now, and I don't know why...tomorrow is another day though.
Also I've seen PCI winmodems have the same problem.
Unfortunately, I don't build systems often enough to remember how to fix these kind of problems, one to the next.

Jim

Hello Pete,

Re: A simple fix for both your systems is to get an external modem.

You are correct. I have used an external modem on occassion with a few of the Athlon systems I'm building. Never had any problems whatsoever. Internal modems present several major disadvantages but are generally cheaper. False economy???

Kindest regards,
