<intel is not trying to do what is best for the consumer from a value point of view. they are doing what they thought was best for intel - even the dram companies were against it, consum,ers were against it and many pc mfrs were against it due to its excessive complexity, associated costs and minimal overall performance improvement.>

That is your opinion. I can argue that the DRAM companies are the one's that have an agenda which is counter to consumer interest's. First, they must pay royalties and two they do not want Intel to dominate and call the shots in their neck of the technology woods. It may be the DRAM manufacturers who are not doing their part on behalf of the consumer and are dragging their feet. IMO.
