Oxygenated gas is exactly the same concept as watered down beer. Except the term "oxygenated" sounds a lot better than "diluted" to anyone who isn't a petrochemical engineer. You are simply getting less combustible fossil fuel in a given volume/weight of product. Which is why cars tend to run like absolutely crap on the stuff. Several years ago on the east coast my brand new mustang started stalling out at random and the engine started knocking and pinging.. Since it was about 2 months old I took it back to the dealer and raised hell. He asked me if I was getting my gasoline in North Carolina or South Carolina.. To make a long story short, he said he couldnt fix my car, but that I should drive 10 miles south to South Carolina to fill up, since they never enacted the oxygenated gasoline law there.

Ran perfectly the instant I filled up with "real" gas.

John,

Another problem in the midwest is the farmers are running there gas guzzling equipment full time at the moment. We had a dry spring and they delayed planting crops until now, which is very late. Demand statistics are all screwed up because of the late planting season.
