6/12/00 - Before the Bell - Corning slips but remains higher

NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) - Shares in Corning Inc. (GLW .N) remained higher in pre-opening
trade Monday, although down from early peaks, after the fiber optic cable maker said second-quarter
results would be well above Wall Street forecasts.

Corning was at 230-1/2 on the Instinet electronic broker system, up from 211-13/16 at Friday's close
but down from earlier highs.

Corning said second-quarter pro forma earnings per share would be 78 to 80 cents. The consensus
Wall Street forecast is 69 cents, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.

Corning cited strong demand for the upbeat forecast.

Mobile phone technology company Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM .O) was up at 83-1/4 from a Friday close of
79-11/16.

China Unicom, China's No. 2 telecoms provider, said Monday it would use Qualcomm's
third-generation CDMA system and start testing the system next year.

Speciality software maker Citrix Systems Inc. (CTXS .O) fell to 28-1/2 from a Friday close of 41-3/8.
The company said it expects second-quarter earnings to fall short of Wall Street estimates. Rtr 08:50
