(OT) SJS and Pat Mudge, I don't want to waste threadwidth here, so just a quick reply. SJS, I agree with your assessment of MRVC. It's probably a second/third tier stock at this point (yet). Pat, brightlake2's response to your question and his opinion (that a small position in this still-risky stock with a yet-to-be-clarified long-term strategy might be worthwhile) pretty much hits the spot. One last thing I wish to add: I think of MRVC as Wal-Mart before they became big and overtook K-Mart. Wal-Mart did this by first concentrating on rural markets (which K-mart was ignoring) and by running lean and mean operations, aided by cutting-edge info tech (at that time). MRVC has acquired fiberoptic component companies (considiered to be lean and mean operations and at a fraction of prices being paid by Cisco, Lucent, NT, etc.) in Taiwan, has announced a fiberoptic joint-venture with a Korean company. The CEO has been known to make trips to mainland China (although no definitive announcements in the past). They have acquired Jolt, which already has 3,000 wireless fiberoptic systems worldwide (compared to just 1 trial system that Terrabeam has in Seattle) and is going to be spun off eventually. Last month, they bought an Austrian software company for their source code (the exact nature of which is beyond me). It sure looks to me that MRVC is trying to tap the huge non-US markets and avoid competition with JDSU (I am not equating JDSU to K-Mart, of course; it just seems like an apt analogy)or other fiberoptic companies (the fiberoptic pie is huge anyway and growing larger by the minute). Shareholders that have visited the company say that they seem to run lean operations (and adding capacity). Lastly, when big boys like Fidelity and Janus acquire large positions in MRVC (12% and 8%, respectively), I'm sure they have done their ddilly. Currently institutional holding is approx. 60%, compared to ~10-20% a few quarters back. Well, some of the regulars seem to know MRVC quite well, and since my intent was to make you guys aware of MRVC, I will stop here and not talk about MRVC any more. Hope my post serves to update your knowledge of MRVC. P.S. Bought SDLI today because it was showing good strength and threatening to break out higher. Plan to add more down the road. HMJ
