shares of Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM - news) gained $2.69, or 3.4%, to $81.75 despite news that Motorola (NYSE:
MOT - news) won contracts in eight Chinese cities to supply and upgrade cellular networks. The contracts, worth $65 million,
are an attempt by Motorola to keep pace with Qualcomm and its rival network standard. Last week, Qualcomm announced
contracts with eight Chinese companies to employ its Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology in the region. It
look's like the race is on between the two mobile phone giants.

Motorola rose $0.06, or 0.18%, to $35.06.

In a separate announcement, China United Telecommunications, one of China's largest phone companies, is testing
Qualcomm's CDMA technology. One point for Qualcomm in a race that is just heating up.
