Hi Wayne,

Speaking of writing, you seem to have a talent for it! Don't disagree with your commentary. Do applaud your enthusiasm for the game. That does make for good reading. Professionally however, as you know, it is hard to break in with the Fourth Estate especially in The Big Apple. You really have to be good and lucky. Bloodlines help ;)

Bit of Trivia from Readers Digest:

In the 1920s John J. Fitzgerald, a horse-racing writer for the New York Morning Telegraph, was on assignment in New Orleans and overheard two stable hands refer to New York's
racetracks as "the big apple", meaning they were something special. Fitzgerald dubbed his column "On the Big Apple", and the term became synonymous with the New York racing scene.

Wayne, If Mom writes a book, I'll have to schlep it around to everyone I know. <g>

Yeah, when the winner finishes 7 seconds slower than Secretariat, that is a weak Belmont. But it was exciting. The Lucas/Day combo has a way of taking also rans up for one big day. But, hey, the old stud fee just went up 1000% when they put that "Belmont winner" tag after his name.

What about Curule (sp)? He was everyone's "sleeper." He never woke up. I really thought a lot of Unshaded, but he is a third place horse and I fear he will be third in just about any race he runs. <g> Wheelaway was one I thought had a shot. Oh, well, I did a lot better at The Belmont than I did at Simulcast today. Horses that couldn't win kept winning. I hate that. Unless I've bet on them, then it is very o.k. <g>
