Why has DDR been so slow to develop if it is so simple, such a great idea and so obviously superior? Since research has been done on the concept since at least 1995 and serious (I think) research on desktop systems since 1997, why isn't it exploding out of the chute?

This is intended as a serious question, since I don't pretend to understand the engineering. Marketing should be screaming for this product and engineering would have produced it (meaning the mobos, chipsets, etc.) by now. If RDRAM is a failing technology then the entire universe of mid to high end desktops is open to conquest!

Why so long?
