Las Vegas (June 9, 2000)?Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America and Jewelers of America have formed a for-profit company to provide the trade with an e-commerce site to link retailer jewelers with consumers, and businesses with businesses.

"We're trying to give everybody the maximum ability to have a presence on the Web," Bev Hori, acting CEO of the company, and Jewelers of America vice president said at a press conference at the JCK Show in Las Vegas. "The consumers will enter through the jeweler's Web site. What we're building on is consumer recognition of their local jeweler."

Only retailers or manufacturers with a retail component may sell directly to consumers. On the manufacturing side, retailers will have access to new vendors, and manufacturers will be able to get new retail clients.

JA represents more than 10,000 retail jewelers in the United States, and MJSA represents 1,600 jewelry manufacturers and suppliers.

The corporation, JA/MJSA Net, will have the Web site up and running by Oct. 1, in time for the holiday shopping season. Retailers who do not yet have a Web site can receive assistance in setting one up, and the plan is to include everyone from small retailers who do not yet have a Web site, to large chains with active e-commerce sites.

There will be a fee for being part of the Web site, but the board has not determined yet what it will be.

Danny: William posted that the current conditions are good for tech investment -- and in some respects I am inclined to agree if you can find a good stock at a good price. Perhaps CTXS falls into that category. This stock is being sold with a shoot first and ask questions later attitude. The sellers are institutions and they clearly want this thing off their books. When they sell en masse you see the results. I think this is a buy if you can hold it for at least 6 months to a year.
