SK,

BTW, how about responding to my second point (i.e. the DRAM manufacturers do not want Intel calling the shots ).

No question about it. It's one of the most bizarre schemes I have ever seen for Intel to ask the DRAM suppliers to become fab, or a subcontractor of Intel/RMBS. The DRAM makers will do everything in their power to derail Intel/RMBS.

Suppose Compaq came to Intel with a CPU design, and told Intel to produce it, stop producing all their other product, and basically take orders from Compaq. And on top of it, Intel would have to pay royalty to Compaq for every CPU Intel sells.

If that is not enough, suppose the design is very impractical, costly to produce, with low yields. Now suppose Compaq comes to Intel management and tells Intel to lower the price to equivalent of their old high yielding design. I think it is a time for a reality check for Intel management.
