<<White collar-criminals do, though... perhaps we should establish a deterrent by stringing up a few of those....>>

Sounds ok to me. I have a hackberry with a right nice horizontal limb. Have some rope and a real jumpy mare in the corral.
I'd bet any person watching would think twice before screwing anyone.

Serial killers

are sociopaths and I find it accurate to say they have forfeited their lives by their actions, much as other criminals forfeit their freedoms. These outcomes of crime are known ahead of time in an effort to deter, but as some are claiming here, the system is fallible and the message is often ignored.

I would not consider the death penalty appropriate for all homicides, but serial killers qualify easily.

<<...wouldn't that qualify as premeditated murder, with conspiracy to boot?>> Bad stretch: Any time a life is in our hands the potential for mistakes is present. People's lives are destroyed because of job loss or some other event surrounded by human involvement. Patients in hospitals die because they didn't hire the right Doctor. Passengers die in automobiles because the driver didn't have experience with a particular road surface. Courts occasionally misjudge a defendant. No one has to pay for such unfortunate turn of events unless you can prove some evil intent. I don't think a jury using normal human reason to come to a conclusion about a case qualifies.
