Bluetooth has potential.
But it also comes with inherent security risks.

Think about it.
How long will it take before hackers start using other people's phones, while those phones are in the possession of the rightful owner?

Yes, I know that Bluetooth "operates over short distances". But with a directional antenna, and amp, it could be accessed over much longer distances.

Yes, public/private key encryption could solve some of this, to a point. But there are still issues.

A brave new world of completely accessible data for anyone who cares to listen record it?

I have to wonder about this.
