PlanetofMusic.com Vaults to a Leading Music and Entertainment Site in Nine Weeks Using Network Commerce's Technology and Services
Due to Early Success of PlanetofMusic.com, Company Increases Its Spending With Network Commerce to $500,000 a Month
SEATTLE, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Commerce Inc. (Nasdaq: NWKC), a leading provider of technology infrastructure, services and networks for businesses, merchants, Internet sites, and wireless networks conducting commerce online, today announced an expanded relationship with PlanetofMusic.com (http://www.planetofmusic.com) that will increase the monthly revenue generated from the business relationship. PlanetofMusic.com is the first customer using the Network Commerce Online Customer Acquisition Engine. The five-year deal includes technology and marketing services.
Only two months after the initial launch, the international music and entertainment Web site was named the number two music site -- ahead of mtv.com and mp3.com -- and the number four entertainment site -- behind only real.com, espn.com and napster.com -- on the Internet for the week ending June 3, 2000, according to PC Data Online. The site was ranked number 60 overall for Internet sites with a reach of 3.2 percent and over 2.4 million unique users. The site debuted March 26, 2000 with an overall rank of 1,163.
The site was built by SpeedyClick.com, a division of Network Commerce Inc. and a member of the Network Commerce Consumer Network. The division provides customized versions of its customer acquisition technology to Web sites interested in improving traffic levels and customer retention rates.
"We believe the fun, creative elements which Network Commerce's online customer acquisition engine have added to our site have provided a strong entertainment value for our visitors and added significantly to our ability to attract visitors again and again," said Mehrdad Pakravan, chief executive officer of PlanetofMusic. "Due to the initial success of the site, we decided to increase spending to generate additional traffic and retention rates."
The Network Commerce Online Customer Acquisition Engine technology includes three major components -- a registration engine, an e-currency and redemption engine, and an entertainment platform. The technology has made Network Commerce's SpeedyClick.com itself (http://www.speedyclick.com) a leading entertainment site on the Internet, with an overall rank for Internet sites of 20 for the week ending June 3. For the same week, the site attracted over 5.4 million unique users.
"As we've seen with PlanetofMusic.com, our online customer acquisition technology can be an extremely effective tool for delivering and retaining online customers and ensuring repeat visitors to commerce and entertainment Web sites," said Dwayne Walker, chairman and chief executive officer of Network Commerce Inc. "We expect to announce similar deals in the future."
