Besides making a significant profit on this short from a high level, what are your reasons for not letting your short position ride a little longer?

Shorting is alot different than going long. When you make 20 percent in two days it is usually a good idea to take it.

They could announce some bullcrap news and the stock is in the 20's. Money management then plays a big part on whether you then add or cover. However, if you took the easy money you might love to hit it again.

Steve - I'll let Superfigg answer for himself. I opened a small short position at 21 and closed it out at about 16 3/8 yesterday. I am quite happy to take that kind of gain over the weekend.

It is quite likely that MPPP will go down further because I feel, and I bet others do to, that the settlement terms is bad news.

One thing MPPP had going for it was a big cash position. Enough to ride out bad times and wait out dot.com bashing until either they became profitable or they could arrange alternative financing.

With the settlement, and the prospect of cash payouts and/or further royalty payments, they bleed quicker and may have to push back profitability a few quarters in the future. That is why MPPP is good to hold as a long term short IMO.

I just sold because I think settlements tend to come in bunches and the investment community looked on the settlements as a good thing - which they might be if the terms didn't involve more bleeding for MPPP.

All IMO

The reason i get out of shorts quickly---------

well there are many reasons----------
1. is you cant be greedy on shorting---------100% s the max gain--but the avg short looks for a 20-25% quick gain on a short--- unless its a total scam

as for MPPP i did not wanna be greedy and i had 17 1/2 as half my liquidation ----held 100 put contracts which i covered at 16.5---

these markets turn on a dime so taking profits is smart---
