The fact of evolution is that plants and animals in the past are different from those of today. The theory part is how that is explained. There can be no doubt about the fact.

Sure it can. Cause and effect are not always direct and exact. If you combine the same kind and amount of chemicals in the same way over and over again, you will get the same compound every time. But just because cigarette smoking does not always lead to lung cancer, does that mean it doesn't cause lung cancer in those people who smoke and get cancer? No, it means that there are other factors involved.

Evolution is a theory or concept to explain the changes documented in the paleontological record and the enormous diversity of life on earth. It is supported by facts and evidence. I know of no other theory that explains the historical record so well. If another one comes along, swell, but I'm not discounting evolution waiting for it.
