So do you mean, for example, that USB is a half-baked idea? Yes. It has been a very fragile technology so far. I don't know if it is the spec, the hardware implementation or the software drivers / operating system, but the bottom line is that it doesn't work as advertised.

My experience with USB is limited to a few ISDN terminal adapters, an S/PDIF and 20 bit ADC/DAC device and a video camera. I like it and have found it to be very stable under W2000 (which I have been using in beta versions for over a year). I did recently have some problems under W98 2nd edn with system crashes though.

I don't think that there is a problem with USB itself, but perhaps the W98 drivers leave something to be desired.

As a hardware designer I am torn between FireWire and USB 2. FireWire is here now, but I suspect that for many purposes USB 2 will take over, even though it does have some limitations like needing a bus controller rather than allowing peer to peer transactions.
