Erasmus Darwin- Charles' grandfather had most of the ideas Charles became famous for. I LOVE Erasmus Darwin. What a man.

I'm not really up on the history of how evolution was accepted, it's an interesting subject though. I've been reading on the net about evolution v. creationism, and how creationists think Darwinism is really based on philosophical materialism, and rejection of the Creator. I'd also like a book or two on the subject. I was reading the reviews of Philip Johnson's Defeating Darwinism by Opening Minds on amazon.com - they are either violently pro or con and sometimes inadvertently funny, but scary too. One person said the book proved that both "biology and evolution are wrong" - yikes. This debate seems to be more an American phenomenon, though - one European reviewer said we should grow up. :-)
