OT, Way OT: The banana rule was designed to favor imports from Caribbean islands(former colonies) which have different dimensions than (Dole) bananas originating in Central America, etc. IOW, a non tariff import exclusion. The WTO ruled against the EU but things are still tense in the banana war. LOL! Among other peculiarities are banning of genetically modified foods. A few weeks ago, it was discovered that rapeseed (canola) imported into Europe from Canada contained a few GM kernels. A huge bruhaha erupted and France actually ordered farmers to plow up all fields which had been planted with the "contaminated" seed.
