"Where's Slider?" Hi dabum, you wrote "Where's Slider??? I hope someone didn't get him kicked off line again..." Well, just to keep the record straight, I Didn't. Slider sent me one of his nasty Private Messages, too, but I didn't report him. I even sent him a nice PM telling him how I thought his skills had grown over the last two years and so on. ---I posted back months ago that I was taking a new attitude toward Slider --- Message 13035113 ---and I have. I recognize just like you guys do that Slider provides a benefit here. We all profit from his research and insights as long as we're careful to double check for ourselves on what he writes. ---All I did was suggest that readers check the board's past posts rather than take his word for what happened in the past. Geez, I didn't know he'd be that upset by such a suggestion. (If indeed it was me that caused his withdrawal. He said it wasn't, remember. ---I think it might have been just a lack of enough praise from you guys.) But every now and then there needs to be a Public Service Announcement to warn new readers that they ought to check for themselves about what Slider says about his past performance, doesn't there? Isn't that only fair to new-comers? I tried to be as nice about it as I could. I even apologized for hurting his feelings. ---Anyway, we all know what he's like. He's a guy who needs a lot of external validation. I suggest everybody send Slider a Private Message telling him how important his posts are to you, and how much you like him. Tell him how much you miss his input. Mention how you look up to him and admire and respect him. He's the long-ball hitter. That kind of stuff. And remember -- No criticism of any kind. He'll respond positively to being told he's important and venerated, and he'll be back to posting. --I'd bet on it. ---d
