Kaka, re: and then were so fed up...

My Dad bought a deal at Costco for an out-of-date IBM laptop with a small screen, that I told him he would out grow before he got satisfaction from its use. Now he wants to buy a 2.1 megapixal digital camera with a USB interface. What he needs is a Dell inspiron with a 15.4" screen, with a nice size hard drive, like my brother bought.

Live and learn, then buy Dell!
Mike

kakamongus, you state On one hand we have software and accessories which require more computing power, more space,, etc..and a fooled segment of the population thinking it can be done at a price equivalent of a family of 4 outing to Yankee Stadium.

the complexity of the software is increasing not only relative to need of processing speed but also space, as you mention.

current DSP design (due to processing speed) is not capable of handling voice activation for computers. the next step (as Bill Gates states in his commercial) is voice activation.

voice activation requires an entirely new DSP set and baseband processing arrangement in the form of the so called system on a chip.

this simply means that all current systems will need to be replaced in order to take advantage of the voice activation software coming on line NO LATER THAN TWO YEARS from now.

you can't simply have a "slave" on your desk and automate the process through your servers, since all "slaves" will also need to be replaced in order to communicate properly with the servers that are capable of recognizing voice.

i'm not talking about simple commands such as "open", "close", "file"; more in reference to few speech recognition that accepts all the benefits of the current, modern telephone.

all current systems will need to be replaced for this one 3g rich feature; add that to new entrants coming on line. you won't be able to simply by "upgrade" packages, as the "upgrade" packages will be as costly as buying an entirely new system when considering labor cost of implementing the upgrade.
