<<<"Dell in February started offering Red Hat Linux 6.1 preinstalled on Latitude CPx and Inspiron 7500 notebooks."
news.cnet.com
IBM today jumped behind Linux in a big way.>>>>
and: <<<<"You will absolutely see Linux available on our entire server line," said Buell Duncan<<<
Very interwesting post, Leigh.....Bill Gates may print it out and save it to read in prison.
" Monopoly on OS ? What monopoly, judge?"
<<< To bolster Linux services and support, Big Blue today committed several million dollars to support and training programs for 45,000 software developers and 45,000 IBM dealers. >>>
Wow, there is more fat in the indirect system than expected. What if IBM were to implement the direct model
requiring no dealers?. There could be big savings..(G)
But Kemble and Mike have pointed out some difficulties.
<<< Linux's biggest success has been on servers, where Compaq commands the lion's share of the market. In the fourth quarter, the Houston-based PC maker had 25 percent Linux server market share, compared with 10 percent for IBM and 7 percent each for Hewlett-Packard and Dell Computer, according to IDC.>>>>
Dell may be drooling over this item. If Dells share could increase to 21% in a market segment growing over 100% /yr then in a few years Dell Linux server sales would soon grow by 630%. Yum Yum. And this may be a vast understatement because it was once estimated that only 5% of the servers required to support the web have been installed and there are 10 mil sq ft of buildings waiting( or under construction) to hold some of them.
A Denver plant to build them? Hold an annual meeting there, take along some skis.
Can you see how it might be fun to work for Dell?
Its still work, and hard work at that, but one reward
of helping to move the train along is to see new terrain,
learn to be a winner, and the options-ah those lovely options......
WDQAI Jan02 45's for $13,with Dell at only $200 would be a 14 bagger.
Regards, Sig

Here is brilliant post from out of the past(1996)
Statements still true today-Dell is sooooo consistant(G)

Wayne had a nine bagger by 1996, and was hoping for a double in three years.
Results were a double in 4 months, a triple in 7 mos,
and within the three years 5 splits and the price went from $71 to $1600 instead of to the 160 to 180
expected.
