Cisco Launches Magazine, Web site

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Computer networking giant Cisco Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) is launching a new business magazine and Web site designed to help managers who not technologically adept.

Called IQ, for Internet Quotient, the bimonthly magazine and Web portal is part of a shift in the San Jose-based company's strategy to reach business executives directly, rather than the company technology gurus who report to them.

``More and more the people who are making decisions about technology are not as conversant with technology,'' Cisco spokesman Steve Langdon said.

The magazine will be sent free to ``qualified business decision makers'' who are drawn from mainly from Cisco's customer lists, Langdon said.

Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, a unit of the French company Lagadere SCA, will help publish the magazine. Cisco says it hopes for an eventual circulation of 100,000.

The site and magazine will give company managers access to non-techie explanations of Internet technology. They will also offer ``how to'' advice for getting business operations integrated into the Internet.

The online site will include tutorials.

To make the offering even more palatable to the non-techie reader, the magazine will include a ``lifestyle'' section and feature stories on Internet success stories.
