Technological and scientific genius is everywhere (and is VERY highly rewarded). There are great new plays and movies, sculptures and paintings, books, poems and musical compositions- and many of the artists involved are highly rewarded. These works come from every continent, and are now available to the people of the world. But you have to remember that art doesn't really NEED to be rewarded to be great- Van Gogh labored in obscurity and couldn't sell his paintings. The LCD didn't discourage him. There have always been LCD's- there actually seem to be fewer now than in the past.

I've certainly been enjoying what modern genius has to offer. Maybe you need to get out more.

BTW-WHERE IS MY SEXIST POST????

"... We live in a society that caters wholly to the Lowest Common Denominator. Excellence is frowned upon as showing off, if genius surfaces it gets quickly smothered....."

AJ,

For a change, I agree with your comment. Standards are indeed lowered to accommodate mediocrity in almost every facet of our society. And bright kids are often ridiculed (geeks) to the point where often times they are discouraged to excel.
