Tim - RE: "Didn't AMD sell Vantis, or sell something to Vantis last year? What does Vantis do and what does AMD make for them?"

AMD sold Vantis to Lattice Semiconductor last year.

From AMD's 10Q -

"Vantis products consisted of complex and
simple high-performance complementary metal oxide semiconductor programmable
logic devices.

On June 15, 1999, we completed the sale of Vantis to Lattice Semiconductor
Corporation. As part of the sale of Vantis, we negotiated various service
contracts with Lattice to continue to provide, among other things, wafer
fabrication and assembly, test, mark and pack services to Vantis."

AMD still fabs Vantis devices for Lattice. It's supposed to go down gradually as Vantice products are moved to other foundries. Same thing is going to happen with communication's products too. Even after the group is sold, AMD has the obligation to provide their Fab services to the buyer.
