Arun, good point on the state secrets. Q! is busy with Condor which will provide the USA military with a great battlefield communications system. Imagine half a million soldiers all in instant, secure, individual or broadcast communications contact with GPS location to the metre or three. That's what Q! and G! can provide to them. They'll have a mobile gateway of their own [or two for security in case one gets a flat battery].

But even with lots of top-secret military connections, G! can tell us the total numbers as they are not military identifiers in any way. Not that there would be significant military connections yet, but I'd be surprised if the military has a better means of communication in remote locations where terrestrial services are not something a military commander would want to depend on even if they were available. Even in a foxhole, a soldier can talk to the sky! With a digital camera on the phone, there will be excellent battlefield communications.

Iridium couldn't provide a decent service. G! can do so. Q! could provide USA military handsets with encryption technology to enable secure calls and data to anywhere, even through enemy-controlled fibre!

It's so frustrating to see such a wonderful technological achievement floundering around in dodgy marketing departments. I'd rather have a Zenit failure than a Service Provider failure. The market has given G! a much worse rating due to the marketing mess than they did to the Zenit mess!

Maurice

<And Bin Laden, the terrorist, has been shown speaking on his satellite phone in many news stories>

Are you sure it was a satellite phone?
