Some parts of that story didn't make much sense, for example:

Mass production of the newest Athlon (code named Thunderbird) is set for the third quarter. Samples were available at the Computex show here last week

Considering that vendors like Gateway are showing wide availability of Thunderbirds, I'd say mass production started at least 3 months ago. Could he have somehow confused Thunderbirds with DDR chipsets (that won't go into production until Q3 and are probably of "uneven quality" at this point). Could there have been a translation problem?

Could this be a rehash of the same old story where the KX133 chipset will run Austin Tbirds but not Dresden Tbirds?
