Reminds me of the "judge not..." mentality. NOTHING is absolute nor certain in this life. Nevertheless, we should not freeze and keep from acting to do justice in the majority of cases because we MIGHT make a mistake. Vigilance toward detecting error is required certainly, but we can not fail to act. JLA

I wish to punish, and to separate the dangerous from society (as best we can determine the dangerous), in some cases permanently. I do not wish to kill. There is a difference.

Civilizations can punish effectively without the death penalty. Or do you think the state must be able to take away life in it's "justice" system in order to be effective?
