Global Crossing North America Inks $48 Million Agreement with J D Services (JDS)

- Global Crossing North America will provide private line, network and toll-free services

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2000-- - JDS is one of the nation's largest providers of prepaid phone cards

Global Crossing North America today announced that its Carrier Services Division has signed a two-year, $48 million agreement with J D Services, Inc. (JDS), one of the nation's largest providers of prepaid phone cards. Under the terms of the arrangement, Global Crossing North America will provide JDS with private line, network transport and toll-free services. This network configuration provides JDS with a private line backbone network, allowing it to interface with local service providers for origination and termination of calls and greatly reducing its call completion costs for debit card customers.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, JDS is a full service, prepaid long distance company that specializes in wholesale turnkey prepaid domestic and international phone card programs. Founded in 1992, the company has seen its processed call volume explode to 429 million processed calls in 1999. JDS now has more than 2,000 distributors nationwide.

``JDS's phenomenal growth requires a carrier with the capacity and reliability to meet that demand,'' explained Brian V. Fitzpatrick, president of North American Carrier Operations for Global Crossing. ``We met with JDS and jointly determined that the best solution for its business was a dedicated network to handle its exploding customer base. With Global Crossing, JDS will provide those customers with one of the most reliable, advanced networks in the world, backed by backroom support that is second to none in the industry.''

``JDS's strong commitment to building and maintaining a network that offers quality service and plenty of capacity for our customers has been the cornerstone of our success,'' said JDS CEO Jerry Ricks. ``By partnering with Global Crossing, we will be able to greatly expand our private line network and ensure that our customers continue to receive the most reliable, competitive prepaid telecommunications product on the market.''

JDS joins a growing roster of wholesale companies that are using Global Crossing's network. Global Crossing specializes in providing customized solutions to carriers whether their needs are regional, national or global in nature. Its customers include international and domestic carriers, ISPs, resellers, RBOCs, LECs, CLECs, DLECs and wireless providers, such as BCE Nexxia, Jato, Telstra, Z-Tel and W2COM International. Its OC-48 IP-based network will have more than 101,000 route miles and serve more than 200 cities in 27 countries on five continents. Global Crossing was recently rated by resellers as having the best provisioning and billing practices in the industry.

The question should have been:

To what degree is DT involved with a GBLX/ENT/DT tie up.
