I think even the Chinese communist get the competition thing even more than the Europeans. I never believed Unicom would go GSM as a long term strategy. That means that they could not differentiate themselves in the market. How do you compete if your product is exactly the same as you competition. It is very hard. Plus there is an even more powerful argument that the Chinese do not want to shut themselves off from the vast export market that will come from both CDMA2000 and WCDMA systems. So they will build both. I believe the CDMA2000 will be superior, but I do not a market make.
