Odd how "explanations" often don't come off too well...

A few years ago, I wrote a paper in which I deconstructed a group of "romance novels".... At the time, I was studying representation of native peoples in various forms of pop-culture media. I had noticed that a lot of romance novels at the grocery/drugstores had native men on the covers...in fact, there is an entire genre of these.... so I bought a few to read, and then wrote a paper about them.

I found the whole "research" part of the project to be quite hilarious... but whenever I would try to explain what I was working on, or writing up, people would give me this weird stony-faced stare... generally while I was in the midst of cracking up while describing a particularly ridiculous passage....

At that point, I would go...
"Doh... I think maybe I'll just be quiet now..."

My, imagine how life has changed since the innocent fifties, for one thing, our skirts our so tight that they would never blow up, and even if they did, who needs falling panties, we got thongs!
