yes, playtime with any dog has proven to be an asset in troubleshooting computer problems. <g3>

re your 95% conclusion that the corrupted dlls was what fixed your pc....

if i'm not mistaken, you ran system file checker way back when (somewhat earlier in this diagnostic endeavor) and it turned up no such corruption in system files. that was actually two weeks ago. so i'm thinking maybe the test was incomplete, or that something else happened.

i'm in no way disputing that replacing the corrupted files ultimately fixed the patient (fingers crossed). i'm just trying to feature why they weren't turning up back on 5/31.

of course, the goal is to fix it. the why and the how is just a secondary benefit, i suppose.
