Unprecedented Securities Fraud Case to Be Revealed

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Federal prosecutors said on Wednesday they plan to announce details of the largest securities fraud case in history based on the number
of defendants charged.

The case involves more than 100 defendants accused of participating in a series of nationwide multimillion-dollar securities fraud schemes involving members and
associates of five organized crime families, they said.

A news conference is scheduled for noon EDT about the case. Defendants include a former New York City police detective, a
major West Coast investment adviser, stock promoters, and officers of several companies, the prosecutors said.

Defendants will be charged with racketeering, bribery, extortion, solicitation of murder and other crimes, they said.

No other details were immediately available.
