huey,

Do you or anyone who follows GMST have any comments on the AOL/TIVO deal announced today?

I don't see any particular importance in it. We simply need to remember that the background of that news is that:

1) AOL has always been at the leading edge of creating new industries. Just as its investment in TIVO demonstrates that, so does its long-term commitment with Gemstar.

2) Gemstar has filed a suit against TIVO for violation of IPR, meaning Gemstar believes AOL is using certain Gemstar technologies via its investment in and contractual agreement with TIVO.

3) Gemstar's CEO recently said the company will be spending up to a billion dollars in coming years to make investments such as the one AOL made in TIVO. He used TIVO as an example of a strong possibility.
