I am surprised the following was not published today:

NEW YORK, (WSJ, Reuters)--Noted telecom technical analysts said that the new standard, Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) can never work in real world, high-data rate situatins. One even called Irwin Jacobs, CEO of upstart Qualcomm, Inc., its main proponent, is a charlatan. One unnamed Wall Street analyst went so far as to question whether Jacobs, who uses the title "Dr." really has a Ph.D. in anything other than education from a diploma mill. Meanwhile, there is a rumor going around the CBOE that IDC will be filing a patent suit against Qualcomm and Andrew Viterbi, alleging that Qaulcomm's patent for the so-called "Viterbi vocoder" and soft handoff was stolen from IDC.
