Globalstar longs hate Iridium, so take what they say with the proverbial grain of salt. The major difference between the two constellations is that Iridium's satellites have a lot of communications equipment on them, while Globalstar's don't. Iridium's satellites are designed to communicate satellite-to-satellite ("straight pipe"), Globalstar's can't, they must communicate via ground stations ("bent pipe"). Iridium's design is more of what scientists call "elegant", but once the birds are in the air, they can't be modified.

One of the investors in Globalstar is Qualcomm, and you know what Qualcomm longs are like.
