--2:55 pm Qualcomm down on CFO speech
Qualcomm (QCOM: news, msgs) is sliding 7 5/8 or 9.4 percent, to 74 11/16. Anthony Thornley, the company's CFO, reportedly has said at the Bear Stearns technology conference in New York that if troubled satellite telecommunications company, Globalstar (GSTRF: news, msgs) were to fail, it would impact fiscal 2001 EPS by a dime a share. Thornley did say that Qualcomm remained committed to Globalstar, Dow Jones reported. Separately, Thornley said he was still evaluation South Korea's decision last week to tell service providers that subsidized wireless phone purchases must end, according to Dow. Following Thornley's speech, Bear Stearns reportedly sliced his 2001 EPS estimates on the company.
