"Unlike the relatively fragmented embedded microprocessors segment, the
computing segment is consolidated. At present the players on the computing
segment of the business are Intel, Advanced Micro Devices AMD and Via
Technology. The distribution of the market among these three is highly uneven.
According to Mercury Research, Intel controls 82.1% in unit shipments, AMD
has a 17% stake and Via enjoys the remaining 0.9%. The uneven distribution
becomes even greater if revenues are taken into account. Intel controls almost
89% of the market, while AMD's share is reduced to 9% and Via's share grows
to 3%."


The numbers in this paragraph seem wrong for Via? Or do they enjoy a high ASP chip I don't know about or are they counting chipsets as well as MPUs? The numbers certainly highlight the value of participating in the higher end of the market.
